Wheeler West, 89, of Cambridge passed away November 18, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
Wheeler Olaf West was born Aug. 24, 1924 in Springvale, Minn.to August and Elvera (Chilstrom) West. He was raised and lived his early years in Springvale. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Wheeler married Dolores Diklich on May 22, 1954 and they have made their home in Cambridge. He worked for Great River Energy for 42 years, retiring in 1989.
Wheeler was a long time member of Common Ground United Methodist Church in Cambridge and also the Cambridge American Legion Post 290. His greatest enjoyment was his family and enjoying his grandchildren and all of the family activities.
Wheeler is survived by his wife, Dolores of Cambridge; two sons, Brian (Lori) West of Medina, Craig (Laurie) West of Duluth; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Olson of Coon Rapids, Alzina (Lawren) Johnson of Coon Rapids; and by many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at Common Ground United Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Rollin officiating. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The soloist is Leah Volker and Dorcie Larson will serve as organist. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Home Cambridge Chapel.
