John   Martin  Laase

John Huns M. Laase, 93, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at home.
John was born December 26, 1920 in Waseca, Minnesota to Louis and Minnie Laase. He was baptized, confirmed and attended school in Mankato. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Thorn on March 14, 1942 in Inglewood, California.
While in California he served his country in the U.S. Navy. In 1946, John and Myrt moved to Cambridge where they owned and operated a farm and raised five children. John also worked in construction in the Twin Cities. He was a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church and Legion Post 290. He was active in Farmers Union, a 4-H leader and Director of Rum River Farmers Co-op.
After retiring in 1986, he volunteered for the Senior Center, church, Meals on Wheels and Relay for Life. He enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling across the U.S., Canada, and Alaska. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and attending his grandchildrens football and hockey games. He played cards and danced at the Senior Center. He regularly joined the men for coffee at the bakery and celebrated birthday club.
In November 2006, John and Myrt moved from the farm to East Terrace Co-op in Cambridge.
John was preceded in death by sons-in-law Jim Stiegel and Dr. Gary DeLoia; sisters Delores Horell and Lathea Brinkman; and brother Dean Laase.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Myrt of 72 years; sons David (Jean) Laase, Jerry (Marlene) Laase, Dale (Marcia) Laase; daughters Linda DeLoia and Brenda Stiegel; 12 grandchildren, Casey (Machelle) Laase, Rendy (Greg) Miller, Corey (Nicky) Laase, Allison (Tim) Johanson, Kimber DeLoia, Matthew (Jenn) DeLoia, Kristin (Dean) Holm, Dan Laase, Jason White, Jeff (Ashley) White, Tricia Anderson, Trig (Katherine) Laase and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Cambridge Lutheran Church. A visitation will be one hour prior to services. Arrangements are in the care of Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Cambridge. www.carlsonlillemoen.com
