Dwaine Eklund, age 79, of Stanchfield died at his home surrounded by his family on April 13, 2015.
Dwaine Kermit Eklund was born in St. Paul on June 19, 1935 to Kermit and Lona (Beise) Eklund. In 1940 the family moved to the Rush Point area. The family moved to Grandy in 1945 when his dad purchased a garage business. Dwaine graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1953. He married his high school sweetheart on August 21, 1954 at Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Point where he was a member all of his life. They farmed for ten years near Stark until they bought the shop in Grandy. Dwaine always loved farming and did custom farm work for several years. In 1974 he purchased a turkey farm near Isanti and built a grain elevator that he operated until retirement. After retirement he opened an antique shop in Grandy. Dwaine was a people person and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed entertaining his family and grandchildren, providing a skating rink and sliding hill for them. He skied, fished, hunted and enjoyed boating, especially on Lake Superior.
Dwaine is survived by his wife, Shirley of Stanchfield; son, Michael (Diane) Eklund of Isanti; daughter, Diana (Barry) Engdahl of Rush City; daughter-in-law, Mary Eklund of Isanti; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Liz) Eklund, Katina Eklund, Amanda Eklund, Blair Eklund and Eric McCartney, Nicolette (Sam) Frederick, Ethan Eklund and Nicole Kallman, Lisa (Troy) Thompson, Kaira (Trent) Minke; eight great-grandchildren; and by many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth and his brother, Jim.
Funeral service 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Rush Point with Rev. Keith Kolzow officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Strike Funeral Homes.
