James “Jimmy” Thomas Carlson, age 79, of Cambridge died July 29, 2013 at Haven House Assisted Living Home in Cambridge.
Jim was born July 6, 1934 in Robbinsdale, MN to parents Victor & Mary Carlson, as the sixth out of ten children. Jim married Betty Jean (Maki) on February 16, 1957 at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in Northeast Minneapolis until 1971 when they moved the family to Spectacle Lake in Cambridge, MN and from there lived in many places around the Isanti area and raised their ten children.
Jim worked for Griswold Manufacturing, Cambridge Metal and Plastics, Jim retired from North Branch Manufacturing in July of 2002. Jim enjoyed cribbage, fishing, hunting, bird watching, working in the pits at Princeton Speedway, golfing, and working on tractors and drinking beer with his friend, Roger. He was an avid snowmobiler and was a longtime member and president of the Mystic Riders snowmobile club.
A special thanks to the staff at the Haven House for taking wonderful care of Jim during his stay there.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Betty, daughter Lori, granddaughter Emilia, parents Victor and Mary, brothers Clifford “Bud”, Victor “Junior”, David, Pat and sister Betty Sue. Jim is survived by his children Debra (Duane) Nerlien, Diana (Dave) Grabenbauer, James (Beth) Carlson, Jodie (Don) Whitehead, Robert (Dana) Carlson, Denise Larson, Janice Carlson, Randall Carlson and Ronald Carlson, fifteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sisters Mary Lou (Bob) Bowman, Florine Sangrene, brothers Richard Carlson, Stephen (Sharon) Carlson and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial celebration was held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Interment was in Isanti Union Cemetery.
