Marvin   W. E.   Asmund

Marvin Wesley Eli Asmund, 85, of Cambridge, formerly of Iron, MN died of cancer on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at his home.
He was born July 2, 1929 to Eli and Esther (Kauppi) Asmund in Deer Creek Township, Ottertail County, Minnesota. Marvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo and formerly a member of Trinity Lutheran in Virginia, MN.
Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was stationed in Alaska and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in March 1953. After his discharge, he moved to the Iron Range and worked at the Min-Tac Mine as a heavy equipment mechanic for 23 years. After he retired from the mines, he worked part time at rest areas near Cotton, MN.
He was married to Harriet Strom in 1960 and she passed away in 1984. In 2002 he married Lucille Monson and moved to Cambridge, MN. They spent their winter months in Mission, Texas and the summer months camping on northern Minnesota lakes and being with their children and grandchildren.
Marvin enjoyed the hobby of owning antique tractors and going to tractor and threshing shows. He was a member of the Cambridge American Legion Post #290.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eunice Rantola, and brother Wallaca Asmund.
Marvin is survived by his wife Lucille "Lucy"; daughters Stacy Asmund and Cheri Wiltse of Shakopee, Kathy Anderson of Virginia, MN, Patty (Stan) Daniels of Hibbing; sons Milo (Laura) Strom of Virginia, MN, Michael (Cindy) Strom of Rapid City, S.D., Jim Novak of Iron, MN, Darcie Novak of Hibbing; Lucille's sons Scott Monson of Cambridge, Ronald (Cindy) Monson of Dalbo, Jeffrey (Cheri) Monson of Isanti; 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Myrna (Erwin) Paavola of New York Mills, Avis (Waldo) Leistico of Anoka, as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Salem Lutheran Church of Dalbo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be 1 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2015 at Greenwood Cemetery in Virginia, MN. Arrangements by Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home of Cambridge. Online condolences at www.carlsonlillemoen.com.
