Laverne E. Ries

12/24/29-5/12/15

Laverne Ries (Bergman) passed peacefully and quietly at her home.
She was the first of three sisters raised through high school in Cambridge, Minn. after her mother was widowed when Laverne was just five. Moving to Minneapolis, Laverne began her lifetime career in accounting for several companies, keeping "everything to the penny."
At age 25 Laverne met her husband, John, at a dance. He called on her and "seemed pretty nice" so they were married and started their life together. This included their involvement with family, dogs, cats, bridge, raising chinchillas and, later, moving to a hobby farm with cattle and hogs when John retired. Laverne's life revolved around family, home, gardening, sewing and was an outstanding baker and cook. Laverne was strong in her faith and volunteered in the altar guild. She traveled extensively with her sisters to many foreign, exotic places and was impressed with the unlimited food options when on a cruise.
Her lavish attention and generosity for family was evident during birthday and holiday celebrations. It gave her great pleasure to shop ahead for that special thoughtful gift or card.
She is survived by her sister, brother-in-law, a niece and two nephews, nine great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew.
A celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thursday, May 28 at 3 p.m., 507 W. Powell Gresham, OR.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
