John Phillip Myers passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the family farm with his family and dogs. He was 57 years old.
John was born on August 21, 1958 in Sandstone, MN to Phillip and Lola (Flor) Myers. He graduated from Hinckley High School in 1976 and spent most of his working years farming with his father on the family farm, although he spent several years doing construction work in several states throughout the U.S. John lived for his time with his friends hunting, fishing, trapping and sitting around visiting.
From an early age the love of the hunt filled his soul. For those of you that had the joy of spending time with him it was apparent he lived for the next hunt whether it was gold mining in Alaska, finding agates in the driveway, or trapping coons on the family farm. John's desire to hunt, fish and trap took him on many travels. Along the way he made numerous and lasting friendships. He wanted to be known for the "largest gold nugget in Alaska" and dreamed of finding it on his gold claim in Alaska. Although his physical challenges and financial struggles slowed him down, the dream remained alive to the end.
Even in the later years as he struggled with his disabilities, his friends and family continued to help him achieve his passions. Whether it was fishing at the local haunts, hunting deer in Nebraska, trapping coyotes on the family farm or for him, most important, the time with his friends having a cold one and a smoke.
He spent his last two weeks baiting bear, preparing his deer stand and visiting with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his father Phillip Jerome Myers and his mother Lola Jane Myers of Hinckley, MN.
He is survived by his step-daughter Elizabeth Cheney and three children of Mora, MN; step-daughter Stephanie (Mike) Thomas and two children of Cambridge, MN; brother Jeffrey Myers of Princeton, MN; brother Bradley (Jean Cheshire) Myers of Hinckley, MN; sister Sharon Huse of Sandstone, MN; sister Carol Myers Hinckley, MN; nieces Stacy (Chief) Croy, Tiffany Myers Boyko, Jessica (Glenn) Morcomb, Nicole (Travis) Bahr, Leigha Myers, Amanda (Josh Graber) Myers and Amber Huse; nephews Cody (Karen Hoyal) Huse, Nathan Myers, Matthew Myers along with many very special friends and other relatives.
A gathering of family and friends was held from 3 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Tatting-Methven Funeral Home in Hinckley. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Arrangements by Tatting-Methven Funeral Home.
