Alf R. Vik

Alf Vik, age 95, of Andover, formerly of East Bethel, passed away August 15, 2016 at the J. A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park.
Alf Raymond Vik was born March 21, 1921 in Oakland Township, Mahnomen County, Minnesota to Alfred and Anna (Mortenson) Vik. He attended school in Waubun. On December 21, 1944 Alf married Alma Wolbeck in Norfolk, Virginia while he was in the Navy. Alf served his country in World War II on the U.S.S. Idaho. After his time of service they moved to Mahnomen and later moved to Blaine in 1955. In 1979 they moved to East Bethel and most recently Alf has lived with his daughter, Coral, and family in Andover.
After his service in the Navy, Alf worked as a welder. In retirement, Alf was still a hardworking man, always happiest with a project. He enjoyed the outdoors, beekeeping, gardening, hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and yard work. Alf and Alma were longtime members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti. Alf was a sweet and gentle man; a giving and caring person who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his two daughters, Coral (Allan) Newcomb of Andover, Susan (John) Beulke of Scandia; one grandson, Jeffrey Newcomb of Andover and many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; his brothers, Melvin, Arne and Bennie; and his sisters, Helga and Esther.
A Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 18th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti with Fr. Gabriel Walz as Celebrant. Interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Online condolences may be placed at StrikeFuneral.com.
