Hilma Marie “Sami” Thurner

ob_ThurnerHilma Marie “Sami” Thurner, 72, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 after a brave battle with breast cancer, surrounded by her family, at her home in Hinckley.

Sami was born Sept. 1, 1941 in Minneapolis to Chase and Blanche Kranick (Kurrasch). She attended Marshall High School in Minneapolis and Anoka Ramsey Community College. On Feb. 17, 1962 she married James T Thurner. In June they welcomed their first child, James Chase. On Feb. 13, 1965 they added Tara Blanche to their family. The family moved to Spring Lake Park while Jamie and Tara grew up. Sami and Jims house was always a favorite place for Jamie and Tara’s friends. Sami became “Mom” to many. Sami worked for McDonalds Corporation, Stone Container and Qwest. Sami enjoyed square dancing with her family, with her father calling many of the dances. Sami enjoyed many crafts, flower decorations, clothing sewing, painting and embellishing, jewelry making and more. She and Jim ran ‘Sami’s Specials’ at many craft fairs. The family camped on Rush lake for 30 plus years meeting many wonderful people, eventually moving to the Hinckley area.

Sami is preceded in death by her parents and one niece.

She is survived by her husband Jim, son Jamie (Darla) of Stanchfield, daughter Tara (Alonzo) of Hinckley, grandchildren; Rhiannon, New York, Nicolas (Kayla) and Daniel of Stanchfield, Brandon of California and great granddaughter Tatum of New York, One brother and many other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Hinckley Evangelical Free church with Pastor Jeff Starnes officiating. Music is being provided by Kate Ammerman.  Visitation will be from 10-11 at church. Arrangements by Tatting-Methven Funeral Home.
