Erma LaFrenz Erma LaFrenz, 88,

Erma LaFrenz, 88, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at GracePointe Crossings Gables West in Cambridge.

Erma was born April 1, 1925 to Christ and Emily (Schulz) Schlenker in McLaughlin, S.D., the second oldest of 14 children. She grew up and attended school in McLaughlin and graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1944.

She attended St. Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and graduated in 1947.
June 10, 1948, Erma married Darvin LaFrenz from Moose Lake, Minn. in McLaughlin. They lived in McLaughlin for five years where she worked at a small hospital in McLaughlin and several small hospitals in the area.

The couple moved back to Minneapolis in 1953 and Erma worked at Deaconess Hospital. On July 22, 1954 their son, Craig, was born at Deaconess Hospital. The family lived in Circle Pines and Northeast Minneapolis until they bought a farm near Dalbo in 1960. In November of 1960, they adopted their daughter, Debbie. Erma was then working at St. Barnabas until they moved onto their farm. They lived on various farms in the Braham area until 1977 when they sold the farm and moved to Stanchfield. Erma and Darvin moved to Senior Housing in Braham in 2004. Erma worked at hospitals in Braham and Cambridge from 1970 until she retired in 1987.

Erma loved gardening and did a lot of canning and freezing. She also enjoyed her flower beds. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, and baking.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Reuben, Raymond, Alvin, Albert, Ronald, Jerald, Harold, Willard; sister, Ruth.

She is survived by her husband, Darvin; son, Craig LaFrenz; daughter, Debbie (Curt) Johnson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers: Irvin (Jenny) Schlenker, Herbert Schlenker, Clarence (Donna) Schlenker; sister, Betty (Ben) Hillis; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Chronis officiating. Music was provided by Ruth Anderson and Collette Franck. Casket Bearers were: grandsons, Jerry LaFrenz, Greg Pearson, Cody Johnson, Craig Moulton; godson, Phillip Schlenker, and nephew, Curt Thompson. Honorary Casket Bearers were granddaughters, Sherry Pearson, Tina LaFrenz, Tiffany Moulton, Courtney Acevedo; great-grandchildren, Samantha Pearson, Jessie Pearson, Cole Pearson, Dylan LaFrenz, Dakota LaFrenz, Dawson LaFrenz, Logan Acevedo, Sebastian Acevedo, and Katalina Acevedo. Interment was at Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham. Arrangements with Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham
