Margaret Ruth Dennis Margaret Ruth

Margaret Ruth Dennis, of Stanchfield, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Margaret was born Aug. 6, 1920 in St. Paul, Minn. to Swedish immigrant parents Hjalmer and Anna (Vickstrom) Larson. The family lived in St. Paul and Wisconsin until 1929 when the family bought a small farm south of Braham.

After having attended city schools, Margaret was surprised when she transferred to the Elmwood one room country school. She went on to high school in Braham, graduating in 1937. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business. After graduating, Margaret was lucky to find an office job in St. Paul during the depression. In 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Norval Dennis and together they made their home in St. Paul. In the early 1960s Norval and Margaret purchased the family farm in Stanchfield. Margaret worked for Greetings Unlimited in St. Paul for 40 years before retiring in 1983.

As an infant, Margaret was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in St. Paul and in 1934 she was confirmed at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church. She continued to be an active member all her life.

Margaret, a sharp business woman, always enjoyed her work. In 1968, she started her own greeting card business in Stanchfield, which she continued to be actively involved with until her death. Margaret knew the importance of supporting the community of Braham. She recognized the work of Tusen Tack, supported her church and its people by working at functions of the church and in her donations to community oriented activities. Margaret remarked often about the struggles people had in earlier years, citing the poverty of the Depression era, and the Armistice Day Blizzard. These periods in time caused

Margaret to be a strong supporter of the DFL party for many years, remaining highly informed in political matters until the time of her passing. Margaret will be remembered by all who knew and loved her and will be missed deeply.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, husband Norval, and brother Gordon Larson.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Kay) Dennis of Stanchfield; daughter Lynda Dennis (David Sandven) of Stanchfield; grandchildren Michael Buster (Jena) Dennis Jr., Jessica (Paul) Olson, Kaline Sandven and Kyle (Amy) Sandven; great grandchildren Vera Olson, Tessa and Liam Sandven, and Finley Marinello; special niece Adrienne Olson; special friends Eleanor Bondeson and Kelsey Hamm; and many other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Rich Chronis officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Music will be provided by Kitty Haley. Honorary Urn Bearers are Dean Bondeson, David Sandven, Buster Dennis and Paul Olson. Arrangements are by the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham.
