Gordon H. Hass

Gordon H. Hass, 91, of Crown passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
Gordon Hildo Hass was born September 17, 1924 in Crown, MN to John and Alma (Dalluge) Hass, the fourth of five children, he was eight years old when his mother died. He mourned her death his entire life.
With the exception of his final two years in Cambridge, Gordon lived on, and later owned (until his death) the land that his German immigrant grandparents settled in 1876. He attended school through the 8th grade at Crown Christian Day School. A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church of Crown, Gordon was an active voter and elder of the church for many years. He was also a member of the Minnesota Draft Horse Association.
On December 1, 1945 Gordon married Phyllis Swanson of Zimmerman at Zion. They were blessed with six children, who were raised to have God as their #1 priority. Gordon and Phyllis never forgot to have Jesus bless their meals.
Gordon farmed his entire life. He also milked cows and was a heavy equipment operator for many years. As a young man, he was a hired hand, built baby cribs and did demolition work among other jobs. Gordon had many loves – #1 for God, #2 for his wife, #3 for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, #4 for his friends and relatives and #5 – probably a tie between sports (playing baseball and spectator) and his beloved Belgian horses. Gordon also loved hymns, Phyllis’ (and others) cooking and baking, playing cards (500), hunting, fishing, going for drives, entertaining, a good joke, farming, playing and teaching ball with the Crown school children, ice cream, and teasing little kids about his webbed fingers – saying his fingers were stuck together because he had pancakes and syrup and forgot to wash his hands.
Just as he missed Phyllis so much these past 21 months, Gordon will be greatly missed. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Phyllis, daughter Donna and granddaughter Baby Girl Hass.
He is survived by his children Carol (Leon) Bray, Butch (Mary) Hass, Rick (Nancy) Hass, Larry (Mary) Hass, Joni (Ron) Sundeen, son-in-law Mike Stephan, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Bob Wood, nieces, nephews and many friends and relatives.
Funeral Services were held 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church of Crown. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Online condolences at www.carlsonlillemoen.com. Arrangements were with the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Cambridge.
