Maralyn J. Slater, age 72, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at her home on December 23, 2015.
She was born on May 4, 1943 in Woodstock, MN to Hans and Edith Marquardsen. In 1948 the family moved to Pipestone and when Maralyn was 12 years old the family bought a farm in Cambridge, MN. Maralyn went on to graduate from Cambridge High School in 1961. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked in banking until 1964.
On September 4, 1964 she was united in marriage to Tommy Slater and they raised their three children Terry, Jay and Cindy. They bought their first home in Richfield in 1968. She worked at Richfield Bank part-time. They then purchased a home in Bloomington in 1979. The couple divorced in 1983. Maralyn worked at Health Partners as a Pharmacy Technician from 1981 – 2000. She then worked at Aspen Medical Clinic and retired from there in 2007. She sold her home in Bloomington in May 2015 after living there 34 years. Maralyn moved into an assisted living apartment at Keystone Communities in Eagan.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hans and Edith Marquardsen and her brother Ronnie Marquardsen.
Maralyn is survived by her sons Terry (Allison) of Ramsey, Jay (Glee) of Rosemount; daughter Cindy Slater of Eagan; 7 grandchildren; Alyssah (Connor) Jones, Jena (Matt) Ward, Austin, Joshua, Zachary, Ryan and Andrew Slater and great-grandson Jaxton Jones, brother Bernie (Jane) Marquardsen of Milaca and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sherrill “Cy” Powell, age 75, of Isanti died unexpectedly at home December 26, 2015.
Sherrill Eugene Powell was born October 31, 1940 at home in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Theodore and Louise (Weiscup) Powell. He was raised and attended school in Missouri Valley. On February 11, 1961 he was united in marriage to Barbara Taylo and they made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. They later lived in North St. Paul and then in 1971 they moved to Isanti. Sherrill was known to many friends as “Cy” and his family affectionately called him “Papa”. Cy worked as a forklift operator at 3M for over 35 years, retiring in 2002.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, watching and attending sporting events, and woodworking. He especially loved being with and talking to his family. Cy was a caring, sentimental person who enjoyed caring for others. He will be dearly missed.
Sherrill will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Lori (Tom) Olson of North Branch, Cheryl Grams of Cambridge, Tammi (Dan) Mujwid of Isanti; two brothers, Merle (Bernadine) Powell, Max (Jane Ann) Powell; one sister, Betty (Jim) Feld; sister-in-law, Alice Powell; nine grandchildren, Kelsey (Eric), Lindsey, Mallory, Derrick, Alysha, Amber, Emily (John), Kyle, Jacob; one great-grandson, Connor; and by many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; three brothers, Jerry, Kenneth Harley; two sisters, Susie (his twin sister) Lois; and two grandsons, Neil and Michael.

Nathan D. Miller, 31, of Cambridge died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Cambridge Medical Center.
Nathan Donald Miller was born on December 30, 1984 in Coon Rapids, MN to Edward and Jeanne Lieffring Miller. Nate grew up in rural Cambridge, attending grade school in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge-Isanti High School in 2003. While in high school he played football until 10th grade and then worked at Isanti County Implement in Cambridge. After high school Nate attended St. Cloud Technical College, earning a plumbing degree. He worked as a plumber in Milaca in residential and commercial plumbing and later with J & K Installation for five years. He enjoyed being able to work all over the U.S. installing coolers and refrigeration units. For the past two years Nate worked as a mechanic at Larson’s Cycle.
Nate began racing snowmobiles at the age of 13 and also raced dirt bike until the age of 19. In those six years he won several trophies. He was very mechanical and loved to work on and fix things. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the hunting shack, hunting deer and turkey. Nathan was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather James Miller and cousins Evelyn and Alex Lieffring.
Nate is survived by his parents Ed Miller and Jean Lieffring Miller of Cambridge, brother James and wife Emily Miller of Stanchfield, niece and nephew Elsie and Griffin Miller, grandparents Marlene and Don Lieffring of Two Harbors, Lillian Miller of Silver Bay, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Anna Fae Emerson, age 97, of Wanamingo, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, MN.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Wanamingo Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, MN with Pastor Chris Culuris officiating. There was a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will be in New York Mills, MN at a later date.
Anna Fae Peterson was born on May 31, 1918, in New York Mills, MN to John Adolph and Anna (nee Muckala) Peterson. She graduated from New York Mills High School and attended Moorhead State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Butler, MN in 1930, teaching all eight grades. She then taught at Cambridge State Hospital from 1942-1976, and during that time she obtained her college degree. Anna Fae married Robert Emerson after her retirement; they were married at the Little Brown Church in Iowa on April 10, 1979, and resided in Wanamingo. They loved traveling to visit relatives, and when Bob took ill she cared for him throughout his long illness. She was a member of the Wanamingo Lutheran Church where she played piano and gave Bible studies. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and visiting with friends and relatives. She endured several broken bones and always bounced back and walked downtown even with her walker. She last resided at Diamond Rehab and Living, Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Anna Fae is survived by her sister, Wilma Satren; nieces, Judy (Norm) Ayen, and Carolyn (Bill) Heitkamp; nephew, Peter Satren; step niece, Dorothy (Duane) Thompson; several second cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
Anna Fae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Emerson; sister, Erna; and brother-in-law, Jack Satren.
Dorothy Hestbeck-Zitt of Rush City passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday (12/18/15) at the age of 88.
Dorothy grew up in the Stacy, MN area. At age 14 she went to live with her “crippled Grandma” who she lovingly took care of for many years. She married Donald Hestbeck in 1950. They lived in Terre Haute, Indiana for several years where Don was an army recruiter. When they returned to Minnesota, they spent about 4 years farming near Isanti. In 1957, they bought a farm near Rush City. It is here that Don and Dorothy raised their children: Marcy, Ron, Judy and Peggy. Don passed away in 1979 and about 3 years later Dorothy married Albert Zitt and they were great companions. Following Al's death, Dorothy lived alone on the farm until August, 2015, when she moved to Ecumen in North Branch.
Dorothy loved children and did day care for a number of years delighting the young ones with her homemade macaroni and cheese and cookies. Throughout her life, Dorothy always enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening. The many flower beds around her house were spectacular with color all summer. She planted the love of gardening in all four of her children. Dorothy was also know for her delicious apple pies which she generously shared with friends and family. She would always make a special pie for her Pastor O'Shea.
Dorothy was active in the VFW auxiliary, cooking for huge crowds at the VFW. As a member of the Brickyard Club homemakers group, she spent over 50 years enjoying their various activities. She was also a 4-H leader and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Rush City.
Dorothy will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grand mother who was kind, generous and who loved to have fun. She enjoyed visiting and laughing with friends. While she was full of spunk, she also truly cared about everyone around her and had a deep faith in God.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Marcy Stoeckel of Isanti, Ron Hestbeck and his wife Mary Pat of Rush City, Judy Kramer of Watkins; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; son-in-law Joel Koecher of Stacy, many other friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by husbands Donald Hestbeck and Albert Zitt, daughter Peggy Koecher, parents Hans & Myrtle Sorenson, siblings: George, Fred, Charlie, Herb, Edward, Florence, and Ethel; sons-in-law Neil Stoeckel and Dennis Kramer.
Reverend Laurie O'Shea officiated funeral services for Dorothy; 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rush City. A time of visitation and reviewal was held Monday from 5-7 PM at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City. There was also a visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church.
The interment took place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Bertha A. Bjork, age 67, of Wirt, MN, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, January 3, 2016 at her home.
Bertha was born May 19, 1948 to Cornelius and Pansy Erickson in Bigfork, MN, where she grew up and attended schools. After high school she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked at Prudential Insurance and Plastic Products Company in Lindstrom, MN for several years. During this time Bertha met and was united in marriage to Michael Bjork on May 25, 1968 at the Bigfork Lutheran Church. They lived in Sunrise, near North Branch, MN and returned to the Bigfork area in 1994, where she worked at the Bergquist Company for over 20 years.
Bertha loved playing cards, traveling, camping and loved decorating for the holidays. Above all, family was most important in her life. She was a very caring woman, who always put others before herself.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sister Lorraine Hamilton.
Bertha is survived by her husband of 47 years, Michael; daughter, Michelle Thompson; two sons, Micah (Shelly) Bjork and Brian Bjork; sister, Kathleen Henry; brother, Raymond Erickson; five grandchildren, Kyle and Sarah Bjork, Kelley and Korey Bjork, and Natasha Weyaus; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 9th from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service at the Bigfork Presbyterian Church, in Bigfork, MN. Rev. Ray Cole will officiate. Burial will be in Bigfork Cemetery.

Kayser, 87, of Waite Park who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Rev. Gregory Leiser will officiate. Irma was born on October 31, 1928 in St. Joe, Iowa to George and Kate “Ida” (Kruecher) Becker. She is the 16th child of 22. She married Robert P. Kayser on February 8, 1950 in St. Joe, Iowa. Family as a unit and strong traditional values were very important to Irma, so she stayed at home to raise the couple’s five children. Irma was self-taught in American Sign Language. Once she became a certified interpreter, Irma worked at Anoka Technical College, Coon Rapids School District, and helped the priest teach religion to the children at the deaf school. In 1972 Irma campaigned for McGovern and always made sure she was up to date on political issues; just in case a heated discussion would take place. She was very involved in Cursillo and CFM (Christian Family Movement). Irma often enjoyed going to lunch with her girlfriends at Pesty’s, Friends Bar, or Shooters. She also enjoyed fishing, reading, knitting, crocheting, computers, and photography. Most importantly, family meant the world to Irma and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Irma is survived by her children, Steve (Kay) of St. Cloud, Alan (Delrene) of New Brighton, Diane of Waite Park, Deborah (Loren) Olsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Della (Vern) Breitbach of Melrose; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rita Henley of Phoenix, George Becker of Sun City, AZ, Albert of Sun City, AZ, Jerry of Algona, Iowa, Germaine Flesher of Homer, LA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; grandson, Ruben Kayser; siblings, Anton, Mathew, Thomas, Lawrence, Fr. Luke, James, Sr. Clare, Raymond, Fr. Nicholas, Don, Emma, Martha, Margaret, Mary, Edith, and Theresa.

Jodi Lynn Nelson, age 38 of Minneapolis, formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at her home in Minneapolis on Thursday, January 7, 2016.
Jodi was an adventurous free spirit. Despite her disability, she was a spit-fire. She enjoyed drawing, writing, Saturday family day with all of her friends and family and long walks on the “loop” in the summer.
Jodi was the poster child for MDA and she also attended Camp Courage with the MDA for many years and excitedly looked forward to camp every year. She was a cheerleader at Cambridge High school for the wrestling squad and an avid trainer for Helping Paws Service Animal Group. Jodi was also an Honor Student at Rasmussen College.
Jodi is preceded in death by her grandmother Caroline Kunshier, grandfather Lloyd Kunshier, grandparents Gerald (Shirley) Matteson, grandpa Fuhol; uncle Simon Kunshier; and her faithful service dogs Maggie May and Juni.

Jerry Kunza, age 70, of Elk River, passed away on Jan. 6, 2016 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sarah.
Survived by his wife, Linda; children, Wayne (Jamie), Greg (Deanna), and Kerri (Bill) Keller; grandchildren, Allie, Mitchell, Summer, Tony, Riley, Trevor, and Brody; siblings, Jim (Joan), John (MaryJo), and Jane (Ray) Jensen; nieces and nephews; close family friend, Carl Anderson; other family and many friends.
Jerry worked 41 years for Great River Energy (formerly UPA) in Elk River. Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran, member in both the American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 5518. He donated 13+ gallons of blood, was awarded the Blood Donor Chairman of the Year in 1991 and continued to be a strong donator and supporter of the Blood Donor Program.

James C. Nesbitt, age 34, of Cambridge, MN, passed away after a long battle on Jan. 8, 2016.
He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Harold F. Doberstein died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Elmhurst Commons at the age of 95.
He was born June 27, 1920 to Gustave and Mathilda Doberstein on the farm by Rush Lake in Nessel Township in Chisago County. He attended Danewood Country School up through the 8th grade. He was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Rush Lake. He was drafted into the Army-Air Force at the age of 21 and was deployed to Fairbanks, Alaska training in chemical warfare. He later transferred to Homestead, Florida and worked as an aircraft mechanic. Back home he was foreman at Aurelius Mfg. until he retired at age 76.
He met Ruth Linnemeyer, his wife to be, at church teaching VBS. They were married and raised their five children in the Braham area. He loved gardening, wood working, walking, cooking, baking and was outgoing with a fun filled sense of humor. He was an active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran church. Harold was thankful for all his blessings and for the kind people that helped take care of him. His strong faith carried him through the difficult times all the way to the end of his life. He was at peace and looked forward to going home to the Lord.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his son Douglas; his brother, Elmer; an infant brother, Robert and his parents.
Harold is survived by his children, Alan (Kristy) Doberstein of Braham, Cynthia (Jim) Svare of Isanti, Craig Doberstein of Braham, Teresa Doberstein-Erbstoesser of Isanti, Brother Richard (Eileen) Doberstein of Phoenix, Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Abel Kermit Lood, age 96, of Cambridge, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday January 14th, 2016 in Cambridge, Minnesota.
Abel was born in Cambridge, Minnesota to Abel and Emma Lood on March 25th, 1919. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Paulson on August 18th, 1942 in Cambridge, Minnesota and was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. He worked as a plant supervisor for UPA, later known as Great River Energy for 35+ years. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army. He was part of the conservation club in Cambridge and was an instructor for the firearms safety program for many years. He also served in many different capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Branch President, serving on the High Council and Stake Facilities Representative.
He enjoyed being an outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and collecting antique firearms. He spent many weeks at his cabin in Danbury, Wisconsin. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially time with his grandchildren. Abel was also a fan of movies throughout his whole life, especially westerns. He had a deep love and respect for all animals especially his beloved pets; Sandy, Skipper, Patches, Shane and Sadie
Abel was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Polly Lundgren, granddaughter Karen Frye, daughter-in-law Betty Lood and son-in-law Jerry Kunza.
Abel is survived by his children Jerome Lood, Kathy Curtis (Frank), Linda Kunza, Barb Walbruch (Steven), 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great- grandchildren.

Eileen Lillian Lindgren, age 87, of Cambridge passed peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.
She was born on February 6, 1928 to David R. and Helen V. (Backman) Anderson in Springvale Township, the youngest and only girl of four children. She attended Dowling Country School and graduated from Cambridge High School, after which time she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell telephone in Cambridge and Minneapolis.
On April 28, 1951 she married Axel V. Lindgren at the Cambridge Lutheran Church, and to this union three children were born, Kathleen, Mary and Bruce. Eileen and Axel lived in Crystal and Brooklyn Park until 1970, at which time they returned to Cambridge to her family farm. She was lifelong member in the American Legion Auxiliary and served as president in the 1970s. Once the children were gone, Eileen attended nursing assistant training, and for many years worked at Herman’s Bakery in Cambridge. After Axel’s passing in 1984 she worked in Recreational Therapy at Grandview Nursing Home until she retired.
On June 11, 1988 she married Alvin O. Mathison of Princeton. Old time dancing was their passion (and how she loved to dance) and they made many friends while doing this for most of their marriage. Upon Al’s passing in 2010, Eileen moved from the country to Bridge Park Apartments, where she made many new friends and enjoyed the convenience of city living.
Eileen was a loving mom and grandma and will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her daughters. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (John “Mac” Sr.) McCully of Cambridge, Mary Erickson of North Branch; six grandchildren, Melinda Erickson of Hawaii, Kelli McCully (Bryce Singleton) of St. Paul, Jesse Erickson of Isanti, Susan (Ryan) Haen of Richfield, Jordan Erickson of Cambridge and John D. McCully Jr. of Minneapolis; great-grandson, Norwood Singleton; her sisters-in-law, Hattie Anderson of Cambridge, Esther V. Olson of Braham; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husbands, Axel V. Lindgren and Alvin O. Mathison; son, Bruce Lindgren; son-in-law, Curtis Erickson; her parents and brothers, Donald, Delmar and Delorne Anderson.
A celebration service of Eileen’s life at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Visitation held Wednesday, January 20 from 4-7 p.m. at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge and one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow her interment at Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.

Paula Judith Haynes Age 60 of Cambridge, MN, passed away January 3, 2016. She was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, graduated from Concord High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Paula moved to Minnesota 30 years ago and worked for Arrow Tank & Engineering for over 30 years, where her dedication and loyalty were greatly appreciated. Paula was preceded in death by her beloved father, Ted Mattes; she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Ted Haynes; daughters, Jennie and Katelyn Haynes; mother, Clara Mattes; sister, Beth Mattes; brothers, Michael Mattes (Kathy) and Daniel Mattes (Adina); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces; and also her sweet dog, Dexter. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Jewish Community Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.
